A Staff Product Designer with 10+ years of experience. I craft complex B2B and developer experiences.
Selected work
Dashboard Design
I'm currently the lead designer on the Plaid Dashboard. When I joined, the Dashboard was mostly used by developers, but over the past few years we've scaled the surface to work for a wide range of personas across Credit, Payments, and Fraud.

Design Systems
I led the design of the Plaid Dashboard Visual Refresh. We decided to fork our design system from the consumer experience and created a system that catered to our B2B customers. I own the design system that is used by different teams building on the Dashboard.

About
HELLO
I’m Justin.
I’m a product design lead who enjoys turning complex systems into tools that feel simple but powerful. The objects around this note tell my story so far.
THE START
Design began with advocacy.
I started as a digital campaigner at Reproductive Freedom for All in Washington, DC, where advocacy taught me how design can move people.
GO BLUE
HCI gave me the foundation.
I earned a Master’s in Human–Computer Interaction from the University of Michigan, grounding my practice in research, systems thinking, computer science, design, and human behavior. Through a university fellowship I joined Foresee, later acquired by Verint, where I learned about usability and enterprise software development.
AT SCALE
Workspace to Google Cloud.
I designed security and admin tools for Google Workspace in Sunnyvale, then moved to New York to help developers continuously build, test, and deploy on Google Cloud Platform.
TODAY
Leading design at Plaid.
I lead work that helps fintechs and financial institutions integrate with Plaid APIs, from research and product strategy through flows, prototypes, and polished visual design.
HOME
Maryland roots run deep.
I’m originally from Maryland, live in the DC metro area, and remain extremely opinionated about how crabs should be eaten.
BINGHAMTON, NY
Born upstate.
Born and raised here until I was seven. My dad worked at a hospital in town.
COLUMBIA, MD
Maryland, part one.
Moved here at seven for my dad’s job in Baltimore. Still rooted for the Yankees.
MADISON, WI
College in Madison.
Attended the University of Wisconsin for undergrad, where I studied English Literature, Political Science, and Keystone Light.
WASHINGTON, DC
The first adult job.
Got my first adult job in advocacy. Obama was in the White House and my rent was $600 a month.
ANN ARBOR, MI
Back to school.
Went back for HCI and worked at the local tech company Foresee. Still rooted for the Badgers.
LAS VEGAS, NV
A memorable internship.
Interned at Zappos, where I met Tony Hsieh’s alpaca, got MRSA, and designed one of the first Apple TV ecommerce apps.
PALO ALTO, CA
Google orientation.
Moved to the Bay Area to work at Google. Lived for about a month in an Airbnb while I did orientation and figured out where I should live.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA
The Google Bus years.
Rented an apartment in the Inner Sunset and spent an average of 18 hours a week commuting on the Google Bus to Sunnyvale. The temperature could change 10–20 degrees during the trip south.
NEW YORK, NY
Across the country.
My girlfriend, soon to be my wife, took a job at the Manhattan DA’s office, so I moved with Google to Manhattan and then Brooklyn after we had our first kid.
PHILADELPHIA, PA
More room for four.
We moved to Philly to be closer to family and get more space before our second kid arrived.
ROCKVILLE, MD
Finally, roots.
Finally put down roots near family, where my kids can spend time with their four local grandparents and 12 local cousins.
